It is with great sadness that we report that passing of Rabbi Elias Karp z”l, a close talmid of Rav Shraga Feivel Mendlowitz zt”l in Mesivta Torah Vodaas.
Rabbi Karp was born on the Lower East Side of Manhattan and later moved to Williamsburg. He gained his foundation for life at Torah Vodaas, where he was guided and influenced by Rav Shraga Feivel, whose ideals remained with him for the rest of his life.
Rav Karp worked as a salesman, but his true occupation was as a maggid shiur at the 14th Avenue Agudah in Boro Park, where he delivered a blatt shiur in Gemara. Rabbi Karp devoted untold hours preparing for the shiur, plumbing the depths of the sugyos, and then delivering a masterful and enlightening shiur. His acumen and lucidity were remarkable.
Rabbi Karp and his wife, Mrs. Karp, nee Batt, raised a beautiful family of bnei and bnos Torah, and were zoche to grandchildren and great-grandchildren following in their footsteps.
Rabbi Karp is survived by his children, Mrs. Binni Katz of Brooklyn; Rav Avrohom Karp, R”M in Yeshiva Bais Moshe of Scranton; Mrs. Chaya Bartel of Brooklyn; and Mrs. Esther Elfenheim of Eretz Yisroel. He was predeceased by his son, R’ Naftoli.
The levaya will be held today at Shomrei Hadas Chapels, located at 3803 14th Avenue in Boro Park, and kevurah will take place at the Beth David cemetery in Elmont, NY.

Rav Karp was also very involved with the Mishna Yomi project. 2 mishnayos a day.
I remember Rabbi Karp learned with Rabbi shie willhelm & a Third Chavruse in Lakewood Miniyan in Boro Park.

Rabbi Karp zl and yibodel lchaim tovim Rebbitzen Karp continued the work of promoting the study of Mishna and Halacha Yomis, initiated by Rabbi C Batt zl of Hartford. Rabbi Yona Stencl zl of Tel Aviv founded the study program in 1947 and Rabbi Batt projected and advertised the limud here. Rabbi Karp zl would send out thousands of luchos yearly for at least the last 4 decades.
Rabbi Karp also was a militarychaplain PRIOR to the US entry to WW II as well as highly involved in ALL the Klal needs TNZBH
I believe the third chavrusah was Rav Quinn.
