It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Rabbi Eliyahu Mordechai Yanofsky z”l.

Rabbi Yanofsky was the longtime head of the Lakewood Seminary in Lakewood, NJ. Rabbi Yanofsky was a resident of Lakewood, where he was a member of the Bais Medrash Govoah kollel for many years before entering the world of chinuch habanos. He was a gabbai for many years at Bais Medrash Govoah’s Bais Shalom Bais Medrash.

Rabbi Yanofsky was a son of Rabbi and Mrs. Moish and Sharon Yanofsky. His father, Reb Moish, is the former longtime beloved principal at Machon Bais Yaakov in Boro Park.

Rabbi Yanofsky, throughout his years, always carried himself with dignity and humility, possessing the aidelkeit and feinkeit of a true ben Torah, values that were conveyed to others over the years.

Rabbi Yanofsky recently celebrated the engagement of his son, Yecheskel Yanofsky, to Sara Sochet.

During the last few years, Rabbi Yanofsky battled difficult illness and endured tremendous yissurim during this period.

Rabbi Yanofsky’s family and his many friends have been plunged into mourning with his passing.

He is survived by his wife, Chaya (née Lerner) Yanofsky; his parents, Rabbi and Mrs. Mosih Yanofsky of Brooklyn; his siblings, Rabbi Shimon Yanofsky, Dr. Noson Yanofsky, R’ Meir Leib Yanofsky and Mrs. Golda Baila Feigenbaum; his ten children, and extended family.

The levaya will take place today, Monday, at 1 p.m., at Bais Medrash Govoah, located at 617 6th Street in Lakewood, NJ. The aron will then be taken to JFK Airport, Cargo B, Building 23, at 5 p.m., to be flown to Eretz Yisroel for kevurah there.

Update: The shivah will take place at 59 Carey Street in Lakewood, NJ, until Sunday morning. Rabbi and Mrs. Moish Yanofsky, Rabbi Shimon Yanofsky, Dr. Noson Yanofsky, R’ Meir Leib Yanofsky and Mrs. Golda Baila Feigenbaum will be sitting shivah starting from Thursday morning at 1054 East 17th Street. Rabbi Shimon Yanofsky and Dr. Noson Yanofsky will be returning from Ererz Yisroel on Wednesday morning to Lakewood and will then sit in Brooklyn starting Thursday morning.

  1. What a loss!! Quiet kind and humble from a most special family. His parents are our role models of what gomlei Chassodim are. Mi yiten temuroso. We are heartbroken and betzaar along with his wonderful family, wife and children.

  2. He was my shaddchan (and i belive many other too) and real anav. Aidel always making one smile. Came to our simchas including bar mitzvas. Was zoche to sit near him in BMG simcha room ans dining room yomim noroim minyanim which he was the gabbai. Only an anav. The word gayva was foreign to gim.
