rabbi-moshe-zev-feuersteinIt is with great sadness that we report the passing of Rabbi Moshe Zev Feuerstein zt”l, a noted Boyaner chossid who served as the administrator of Mesivta Tiferes Yisroel of Rizhin. He was 81.

Reb Moshe Zev grew up in Crown Heights in the home of his parents, Reb Nosson Aron and Chana and learned in Yeshiva Torah Vodaas and then Mesivta Tiferes Yerushalayim in Manhattan, drawing close to the posek hador, Rav Moshe Feinstein zt”l, whom he often drove to various destinations, including to the Boyaner Rebbe, Rav Mordechai Shlomo Friedman, whom he formed a close kesher with.

Reb Moshe Zev served as a rebbi for many years, including at Yeshiva Toras Chaim of South Shore and at Yeshiva Ohr Yisroel, and he  devoted his life to the mosdos of Boyan/Rizhin, literally giving away his days and nights to ensure their hatzlacha and financial security.

The levaya was held yesterday afternoon in Manhattan and then in Boro Park and the aron was flown to Yerushalayim for kevurah on Har Hazeisim.

In a demonstration of the high esteem in which Reb Moshe Zev was held, the Boyaner Rebbe, who already traveled to Meron for the Lag Ba’omer hadlakah wich he will lead on Motzoei Shabbos, was scheduled to travel back to Yerushalayim to attend the levaya before journeying back to Meron before Shabbos.

Reb Moshe is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bashy Feuerstein (nee Gissinger), and his children, Reb Shmuel Dovid Feuerstein, Reb Yisroel Tzvi Feuerstein, Reb Yaakov Feuerstein, Reb Nosson Aharon Feuerstein, Mrs. Rachel Leah Deitel and Mrs. Chaya Koenig, as well as many grandchildren.

The family is sitting shivah at 417 D Grand Street, off Clinton Street, Apt. 102, on the Lower East Side of Manhattan until Wednesday morning.

Yehi zichro boruch.

  1. As a child (40+ years ago) I went to the same bungalow colony as Rabbi Rabbi Fuerstien. Every Friday when he came up for Shabbos he would give to all the children small prizes.
I also remember Rav Moshe Fienstien staying in his bungalow.

  2. Rabbi Feuerstein, ZTZ”L was my 8th grade Rebbe in Yeshiva of South Shore in Hewlett, and I attended his summer day camp in Far Rockaway.
I always affectionately remember in camp how he used to say, “we’re going to have a Vaffle today, and give out pvizes and pvesents.”
He was a very warm and devoted Rebbe and he had a great impact on me.
    Yehi Zichro Boruch.

  3. He was my 8th grade Rebbe in yeshiva of South Shore in Hewlett. He was warm , considerate – a mentch – We need more Rebbeim like him. He will be truly missed.

  4. Rabbi Feuerstein ZT’L was my 5th grade Rebbe in Yeshivas Ohr Yisroel in Forest Hills Queens, (Rabbi Geldzahler’s Yeshiva), back in the early sixties. He was an excellent “mechanich” and a most caring & wonderful Rebbe. All the boys really loved learning from him & truly enjoyed being in his class. May his memory be a blessing to all of klal yisroel.
