It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Rabbi Mutty Cohen z”l.

Rabbi Cohen, who resided in Ramat Shlomo in Yerushalayim, was a son of Rav Henoch Cohen of Chinuch Atzmai, and a son-in-law of Rabbi Avrohom Moshe Farber z”l, longtime rebbi in Breuer’s and legendary chazzan at the Ohev Tzedek Shul on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.

Reb Mordechai, as Rabbi Cohen was affectionately known to his friends, was a tremendous talmid chochom and baal machshava. He learned at Yeshiva Be’er Yaakov under Rav Moshe Shmuel Shapiro zt”l and later in the kollel of Rav Moshe Shapiro zt”l.

He was zoche to be marbitz Torah to many talmidim in yeshivos in Eretz Yisroel where he gave shiurim, and at Camp Ma-Na-Vu, which he attended summer after summer for many years.

After suffering tremendous yissurim beahava for the last years, Reb Mutty’s neshoma returned to the yeshiva shel maalah on Sunday night, chof Elul.

He is survived by his wife and children, his father Reb Henoch, his sister Mrs. Ahuva Svei, and many talmidim.

Yehi zichro boruch.

  3. Rabbi Moti Cohen z”l lived in Ramat Shlomo and before that in Har Nof. He was a Talmid Chacham and educator who learned and taught Torah with hundreds of Talmidim and Chavrusos of all ages and stages and walks of life. He loved learning and was extremely devoted to his family friends and acquaintances. He was a close talmid of Rav Moshe Shmuel Shapiro zt”zl and later of Rav Moshe Shapiro zt”zl.
