  1. What was the exact name of the Shul? What is the exact address? What nusach do they daven? How many regular misspalelim do they have? Where was the Rov a musmach from? How come we never heard of it?

  2. He Z’L was the Rov of the

    Wall Street Synagouge

    located at 47 Beekman Street,NYC.

He was related to the Viznitzher Rebbe whose

    surname is also Hager.

The levaya is scheduled for 2:00 pm today.

  3. Barch Dayan Ha’Emet.

I davened at the Wall Street Synagogue for several years when I worked downtown, and the early afternoon Mincha minyan drew an incredibly diverse group of yidden.

I don’t know where R’ Hagar Z”L received semicha from, but if memory serves, his father was the founding rav of the shul, as well as a founder of the Yeshiva of Spring Valley.

    Yehi zichro baruch.

  4. He was a very gentle, sweet man who was present at the shul all day and who strove to promote Torah and yiddishkeit as much as possible. Even though most worshippers at the shul are on their lunch break, the services there are slow and dignified, never rushed. Rabbi Hager received a higher profile as a result of 9/11 and his outreach to the firemen next door.

Remarkably, the shul has had only two rabbis since its founding in 1929, Rabbi Hager and his father.

  5. I knew Rabbi Hager for almost 30 years. He attended my wedding and would see him daily at one his numerous mincha minyanim. He ran the Wall Street Synagogue with his brother. The two who were not married and lived together in the South Bridge Towers a few blocks from the shul.

I considered him a friend. BDE He will be greatly missed.
