A Borough Park rabbi was held at gunpoint and treated like a common “criminal” by a Vermont state trooper, NY POST reports.

Rabbi Berl Fink was  driving along I-91 north near Fairlee, Vermont, when Trooper Justin Thompson ordered him out of his 2004 Toyota Camry at gunpoint around 11:30 p.m..

Thompson then allegedly pushed Berl to the ground, handcuffed him and frisked him for weapons, while the rest of the kin — including the couple’s 16-year-old daughter and 19-year-old son — were also told to get out of the vehicle and handcuffed.

The family is threatening to sue the Vermont State Police for civil rights violations. A spokesman for the Vermont State Police said it would investigate. Read more at NY POST.

  1. This happened in Bernie Sanders’ State?! I can’t believe that freedom fighter would allow this to happen.

  2. Yes, it is frightening. You’re at the cop’s merce and it’s his say over yours. B”H his wife called 911, and they called Dov Hikind, otherwise they could have been thrown in jail for no reason at all and had even more tzaros.

  3. This story is not credible. Why would any rabbi visit Vermont? How did he get a van? Why was a cellphone being used in a moving vehicle? All fishy to mir.

    • He was passing thru Vermont on his way to New Hampshire. There are a lot of Chassidim that vacation there in the summer. They have a nice Shul in, both Bethlehem and Lincoln. Minyanim for all tefillos and a mikvah in Bethlehem. Even the Satmar Rebbe spends time there. I’ve been there numerous times. Don’t cast your evil aspersions on fellow Yidden you know nothing about. Shame on you.

  4. There are some modern Chasidim that drive vans, as opposed to using horses and buggies. 🙂

I don’t recall seeing anything about a cellphone being used in a moving vehicle in the story.

Some people in other states are not enamored of New Yorkers, and the way that some people from NY drive is foreign to them.

P.S. I doubt that VT state troopers are schooled in the differences between Chasidim and Litvaks.

  5. Why is there a vermont state trooper parked on new york city streets in the picture? It is clearly NYC likely Manhattan what is it doing there? Strange
