raitzikLakewood, NJ – Avos Ubonim of Lakewood wrapped up another long and productive winter season, culminating in the Avos Ubonim Special Awards Evening this past Sundayat Lake Terrace Hall.

The Avos Ubonim program has grown all around the world by leaps and bounds. In Lakewood alone this winter, thousands of boys, third grade and above, and their chavrusos learned at over seventy locations on Motzoei Shabbosos.

At the event this past Sunday, the special guest speaker was Rav Fishel Schachter, noted lecturer and maggid shiur. The event also featured remarks from Rav Malkiel Kotler, the Lakewood Boys Choir, an audio-visual presentation, raffles and a gift for each boy who attended 8 or more weeks of Avos Ubonim.

A highlight of the event were remarks from Rabbi Shabsi Raitzik, whose son, 9-year-old Eliyahu Eliezer z”l, passed away several weeks ago.

Reb Shabsi told the 2,000 boys in attendance that his son would have very much wanted to take part in the event.

Reb Shabsi showed the boy’s his son’s Avos Ubanim card, stating that he attended the program for enough weeks to qualify, “He wanted to come every single week,” said Reb Shabsi.

Reb Shabsi made one request of the boys. “Please, if you don’t mind, learn a Mishnah l’illui nishmas Eliyahu Eliezer ben Shabsi Yaakov Yosef Halevi. That would be a great zechus for him.”
