candle-small5It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Rabbi Shimon Newhouse z”l. The tragic news comes just weeks after the passing of Reb Shimon’s mother, Rebbetzin Rivkah Newhouse a”h. Rebbetzin Newhouse and her illustrious husband, Reb Avrohom z”l, were the founders of Bais Yaakov Elementary School of Williamsburg  and Camp Bais Yaakov, and together with her husband was mechanech thousands of girls, imbuing them with love of Torah and Yiddishkeit. Reb Shimon z”l continued his parents’ legacy, running Camp Bais Yaakov in accordance with the standards and hashkafos set forth by them. His chashivus for Torah has carried over to the next generation, with Reb Shimon’s children serving in prominent positions in their respective communities as Bnei Torah and baalei chessed. Reb Shimon and his choshuve rebbetzin, Mrs. Chaya Newhouse, have merited to raise an upstanding mishpacha. The Newhouses lived in Brooklyn for most of their married life, having moved to Lakewood, NJ, a number of years ago.

Reb Shimon’s pure neshama returned to its Creator shortly after 10 o’clock this morning.

The levaya will be held at 2 p.m. at Beth Medrash Govoha, located at 617 6th Street in Lakewood, NJ. Kevurah will take place in Eretz Yisroel.

Reb Shimon is survived by his wife, Mrs. Chaya Newhouse, as well as his children and grandchildren, and his siblings, R’ Menashe Newhouse, Reb Eliezer Newhouse, Mrs. Chani Waxman, Mrs. Bebshie Zaks, Mrs. Rochel Krawiec, and Mrs. Sheila Rottenberg.

Yehi zichro boruch.

  1. Boruch Dayan Emes.
His son, Yossi, is a baal chesed par excellence in Lakewood, as one of the founders of Chaveirim of Lakewood.
May they know no further tzaar.

  2. I was with the Newhouses in yeshiva torah temimah. nebach! what a loss! what a mishpacha. may they have a nechama.

  3. What a shock. All CBYers are surely reeling with the memories… “Chaveiros Achdus…”, Shabbos Nachamu walks, Motzei Tisha B’Av, etc.

Baruch Dayan Emes. What a loss for Camp BY, his mishpacha, and all Klal Yisroel.
