Rabbi Ovadia Isakov, a 40-year-old Chabad-Lubavitch shliach, was shot and seriously wounded in Derbent in the Republic of Dagestan today.
Rabbi Isakov, who is the chief rabbi of Derbent, was shot in the lung from behind by an unidentified assailant not far from his home. The attack took place as Rabbi Isakov exited his car to enter his home in the predominantly Muslim Republic. He is currently in intensive care and is reported to be on a respirator.
