uri orlianCongregation Shaaray Tefila, the over one-hundred-year-old shul in the Lawrence, NY, has introduced Rabbi Uri Orlian as rov of the the congregation.

Rabbi Orlian previously served as the rov of the Shenk Shul in Washington Heights for the past five years, leading a congregation that Rabbi Orlian describes as “highly educated,” including young couples and graduate students from Yeshiva and Columbia Universities. The shul is an affiliate of Yeshiva University, where Rabbi Orlian has been teaching Gemara for the last ten years to both beginners and more advanced talmidim. He also holds the position of Director of Contemporary Halachah in the yeshiva’s semichah program. In the latter position, Rabbi Orlian has dealt with cutting edge issues in areas where medicine and technology interface with halachah.

His wife, Nava, has taught Jewish Philosophy at Maayanot Yeshiva High School in New Jersey and has served as program director of “July in Jerusalem,” an introductory religious educational experience for men and women developed by Rabbi and Rebbetzin Orlian nine years ago. In this summer program, Rabbi Orlian teaches basic Jewish ideas to college-age students who primarily attended public school.

Now, Rabbi and Rebbetzin Orlian will be using their combined, considerable talents as the rov and rebbetzin of a shul that has served New York Jewry since 1910.
