Rabbi Yehoshua Mordechai Kahane zt”l

reb-shia-kahaneRabbi Yehoshua Mordechai Kahane zt”l, one of the most well-known baalei tzedakah in the Boro Park area and its environs, passed away yesterday, several days after being hit by a person riding a bicycle in Boro Park. He was 83.

Reb Yehoshua Mordechai, or Reb Shia as he was known, was hit near the Shomer Shabbos shul on Shabbos and fell into a coma.

Born in Eretz Yisroel, Reb Shia later moved to the US, where he married his wife, Nechama. They never had children.

Reb Shia collected tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of dollars for aniyim and those in dire situations. Visiting botei knesses, yeshivos and simchos, he raised dollar after dollar so that he could give the money to those in need, often surreptitiously and discreetly.

The levayah was held last night at the Satmar Bais Medrash in Boro Park.

Yehi zichro baruch.
