yekutiel rappIt is with great sadness that we report the passing of Rabbi Yekutiel Rapp zt”l, who was killed in a fatal car accident today. He was 66.

Rabbi Rapp, the longtime mashgiach of Yeshivas Tomchei Temimim in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, was run over multiple times by a car at the corner of Empire Blvd. and Balfour Place in Crown Heights.

The incident occurred today at about 5:30 p.m.

Rabbi Rapp was crossing the street with his wife when he was hit and run over by a white livery cab. The driver, realizing that he had hit something but unaware that it was a person, backed up his car, running Rabbi Rapp over a second time. In the ensuing mayhem, the driver then drove forward, running over Rabbi Rapp a third time.

Hatzalah arrived at the scene and then rushed Rabbi Rapp to Kings County Hospital. He later passed way.

Rabbi Rapp was born on 9 Av 5708 (1948) to Shraga and Tzippora Rapp in the moshav of Yesodot in Israel. In his youth, he learned at Yeshiva Kol Torah in Yerushalayim.

Rabbi Rapp later learned enrolled at Yeshiva Tomchei Tmimim in Kfar Chabad and moved to New York.

His main outpost was JFK International Airport, where he developed a close connection with the team of Israel’s national airlines, El Al. His work there was later conducted under the official name Chabad at JFK.

Rabbi Rapp often brought Israeli government officials to New York and later created an organization to fight Israel’s concessions to Arab countries.

His daily occupation was as mashgiach at Yeshiva Tomchei Tmimim in Crown Heights. At the Yeshiva, he helped educate generations of bochurim alongside the current hanhalah, Rabbi Zalman Labkowski, Rabbi Yoel Kahn Rabbi Shlomo Zarchi and others.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Fayge Rapp, and his family.
