yonason-sacks-1Rabbi Yonason Sacks has been appointed rosh yeshiva of Beis Medrash L’Talmud at Lander College for Men (LCM).

“Touro College is proud and honored to welcome Rabbi Sacks to Lander College for Men/Beis Medrash L’Talmud,” said Dr. Alan Kadish, president and CEO of The Touro College and University System. “A world class talmid chacham and manhig b’Yisrael, Rabbi Sacks will add immeasurably to the already stellar rabbinic faculty of Lander College for Men. I have every confidence that his leadership and vision will meaningfully impact future generations with his skillful oversight, knowledge, and erudition.”

Rabbi Sacks will be joining Rabbi Doniel Lander, who, in addition to leading Yeshivas Ohr Hachaim and serving as chancellor of Touro, will be a rosh yeshiva of Beis Medrash L’Talmud as well. “We are truly privileged and delighted that Rabbi Sacks will join Beis Medrash L’Talmud,” said Rabbi Lander. “His wisdom and depth of Torah scholarship are renowned and held in great esteem and I am certain that our yeshiva will flourish greatly under his care and direction. I look forward to working with him as he leads our yeshiva and guides each of our talmidim into a bright and promising new era of Torah scholarship as b’nei Torah.”

A posek and author of 18 sefarim, Rabbi Sacks descends from a long line of illustrious rabbinic personalities. His great-grandfather, the legendary Rabbi Zvi Pesach Frank, served as Chief Rabbi of Yerushalayim for more than 50 years. His grandfather, Rabbi Menachem Sacks, was a leader of Jewish education in Chicago for nearly six decades, and his father, Rabbi Louis L. Sacks, was rabbi of Congregation Anshe Emunah in Delray Beach, FL.

For the last quarter century, Rabbi Sacks has been a leading figure in harbatzos haTorah as a rosh yeshiva and rebbi. For the last 18 years, he was a rosh yeshiva at Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary (RIETS) at Yeshiva University where he was ordained and awarded semichah Yadin Yadin, an advanced rabbinic ordination. He has been the rav of Agudas Yisroel Bircas Yaakov in Passaic, NJ, for more than 18 years.

“I am honored and humbled to serve with Rabbi Doniel Lander as the rosh yeshiva of Beis Medrash L’Talmud at Lander College for Men,” said Rabbi Sacks. “Together with our distinguished rabbinic faculty, I aspire to the advancement and enrichment of our yeshiva, and the personal growth and development of each of our talmidim.”

The curriculum at Lander College for Men is characterized by adherence to Torah values that encompasses both Jewish and general studies. “There is a holistic environment at LCM,” said Dr. Moshe Sokol, dean of LCM. “We strive for excellence in both spheres which is evidenced by our students’ steadfast commitment to Torah study, their academic achievements, and their graduate acceptances. I, personally, feel privileged to partner with Rabbi Sacks in further creating an outstanding environment in which b’nei Torah can thrive and succeed.”

Rabbi Sacks will officially assume his position as rosh yeshiva in Elul 5773/2012.
