A group of rabbis will hold a news conference this Tuesday to oppose the imprisonment of R’ Sholom Mordechai Rubashkin, a former vice president of Agriprocessors, Inc. They will urge the U.S. Department of Justice to closely scrutinize the demands by federal prosecutors in Iowa that R’ Sholom Mordechai be imprisoned before he is sentenced. The group also will request a meeting with U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder.
R’ Sholom Mordechai, 51, was convicted last year in federal court in Sioux Falls, S.D., and prosecutors are demanding he receive a minimum of 27 years in prison. The bail issue is pending before the full Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals on a petition for rehearing en banc.

V.P., National Council of Young Israel; Rabbi David Zwiebel, Executive Vice President, Agudath Israel; Rabbi Gershon Tannenbaum, Rabbinical Alliance of America; Rabbi Aaron L. Raskin, Rabbinical Association of Brownstone, Brooklyn; Rabbi Chaim Schwartz, Executive Director, Rabbinical Board of Queens, NY; and representatives of the Aleph Institute and Rabbinical Council of America will be present.

The report is not sufficiently clear.
It seems that they are just calling for his release on bail pending sentencing, not his release outright. It would be a good idea to clarify the matter.
by all that’s right, the rabbis are at least doing something. He is no criminal that should be jailed for 23 years.TRhere should be more big name rabbis joining this effort. Instead of weakening kashrus, RCA rabbis should be expending efforts for pidyon shevoem.
its about time all these org. woke up. Where were they until now? where is the OU?
