emanuelWhite House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel arrived in Israel with his family on Friday for the bar mitzvah of his son. Emanuel is likely to meet with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and President Shimon Peres during his stay, but the meetings have yet to be scheduled.

Channel 1 showed video of Emanuel arriving Friday. Ynet reported that he had first gone to Eilat and then traveled to Yerushalayim, where he will be staying for a few days.

Emanuel announced last year that he planned to make his son’s bar mitzvah at the Kosel, but Maariv reported at the weekend that he had opted for a private gathering in Yerushalayim instead, after far-right activists threatened to disrupt the celebration to protest the Obama administration’s policies on Israel.

  1. He’ll take his son to the Kosel. Let this oisvurf take his son to Arab controlled areas to fully experience the peace process.

  2. MR. AA: He does not, nor did he ever call himself Orthodox. When in Chicago, the “Shul” he attends is nominally Orthodox, and the rov is Shomer Shabbos. But a significant portion of the membership, including Rachamim Emanuel, is quite publicly not Orthodox. Even his father, a pediatrician who had many frum families as his patients before retiring and returning to the Holy land, never even pretended to be Orthodox.
