rahm-emanuelRahm Emanuel is proud to be the mayor of Chicago. So proud, he’s not afraid to take on those pesky New Yorkers who think their city is the best in the nation.

Emanuel is featured in the April/May issue of Michigan Avenue magazine and, during the photoshoot, Emanuel overheard some New Yorkers admiring the Chicago skyline, but tempering their enthusiasm with, “But I still love New York.”

“That’s the thing about New Yorkers,” the mayor replied. “Always talking about how much you love your city. Here in Chicago, we just do.” Emanuel calls Chicago “the most American of American cities.”

The former White House chief of staff calls his new gig “the greatest job I ever had,” even though he admits that “People have a cynical view of politicians,” thinking that politicians are “up in the box seats, we’re in a limo, we have all these benefits that come with the job and we exploit them.” He disagrees, however. “There ain’t nothing more street-level-except for it’s elevated-than the L.”

  1. Regret to say, but Mr. Emanuel’s opinion is shared by most people who aren’t from metropolitan New York City.

  2. Actually, I was just looking at the NY skyline yesterday and thinking how much nicer the Chicago skyline is – despite only visiting there once.
