rand-paul1When was the last time you saw a Republican write a New York Times op/ed saying he agrees with the ACLU? Rand Paul did just that Sunday night, demanding the Obama administration release memos that provide legal justification for drone attacks, particularly on Americans overseas.

Paul wrote that senators should have access to full versions of the memos and the general public should have access to redacted ones. He also attacked Obama’s nomination of David Barron to the U.S. Court of Appeals because Barron wrote memos justifying the 2011 assassination of American citizen Anwar al-Awlaki in Yemen.

“Those who would make exceptions for killing accused American citizens without trial should give thought to the times in our history when either prejudice or fear allowed us to forget due process,” Paul wrote. Read more at the New York Times.

  1. George H. W. Bush is probably going bonkers that a possible Republican nominee for his party is defending the ACLU.
