rav-aharon-teitelbaumBrooklyn, NY – Rav Aaron Teitelbaum of Satmar, speaking Motzoei Shabbos at a gathering of 30,000 of his Chassidim held in the New York State Armory on Bedford Avenue in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, said that religious Jewry is completely opposed to Jewish leaders who degrade President Obama.

The gathering is held annually to celebrate the rescue of the Satmar Rebbe, Rav Yoel Teitelbaum, from the hands of the Nazis in 1944.

“We live in a country of kindness,” Rav Aaron Teitelbaum said. “We enjoy freedom of speech and freedom of religion. The novi Yirmiyahu (29:7) says, ‘Seek out the welfare of the city where I have exiled you, and pray on its behalf to G-d.’ This country in particular lets us live as we wish, and gives us the right to vote, but recently, certain self-appointed Jewish leaders have gotten up and insulted the President in the worst way. Their words have been broadcast on the radio and television and all the media. Why should Jews come out in public with statements like these? It’s forbidden by the Torah to do so. It provokes the nations to hate us, and it brings danger upon Jews not only here but all over the globe. Who knows what the effects of this irresponsible behavior could be? Therefore, it is our obligation to make known that religious Jewry is completely opposed to these self-appointed leaders. We pray every day for our country and we bless its leaders with success in all their efforts to bring peace to the world.”

Reb Shmiel Weider, a Satmar activist who attended the gathering, explained the context for Rav Aharon’s remarks.

“The rebbe was reacting to recent events such as the special election in New York’s 9th district – a heavily Orthodox Jewish and Democratic-voting area – in which Republican Bob Turner won. Pro-Israel politicians wish to claim that the vote showed Jewish displeasure with President Obama’s Mideast policies. And when GOP presidential candidates make increasingly strong pro-Israel statements, and some Orthodox Jewish activists applaud them, saying this is the only way they can win Orthodox votes, it gives the world the wrong impression of Orthodox Jews.

“Orthodox Jews are grateful and loyal to this country. And when election day comes, we will enter the voting booth with America’s best interests at heart.”

  1. With prudence Trust billows.

What does that mean to you?

This rabbi is right on the money and his message is pure intelligence and orderly honor and dignity as well as professional and righteous.

  2. The point isn’t America or Israel, the point is the truth. It so happened to be that those who are with the truth in the middle east are also with the truth for the best of the US too.

  3. Thank you for publicizing this! While some dignified criticism may be in order, as part of the democratic process, there are those from the “orthodox” camp who have taken to bashing in the most demeaning way. Behavior like that (bashing rhetoric, unintelligent condemnations, shouting, personal attacks) does not come from a Torah base.

  4. To really stop Anti-Semitism, We must show HKB”H that we Sincerely care and worry for the well being of all of Mankind, (Tzelem Elokim), Yidden and Umos Ho’olom.

HKB”H will repay us Middoh Kneged Middoh, and we will, Never-Again, hear from any anti-semitism.

  5. what he is saying is we jews here in America baruch hashem,we live in a malchus shel chesed, never in history have we jews had it so good,we have all the freedoms, all the lavish government programs, please let’s not rock the boat, and get the goyim angry at us,even though it is pretty obvious that Hussein Obama is doing everything in his power to help the Arab nazi’s to destroy Israel and perpetuate another Auschwitz on our brothers and sisters in Eretz yisroel, well it’s not our problem,we have to worry first and foremost about us here in the U.S,let the jews in Israel take care of themselves,

  6. One should be respectful to condemn wrong policies – even in sharp language, as is customary in democracies and was customary in the time of the Nevi’im.
BTW, I am not the same Avi as #4.

  7. Of course not!

President Obama is like King Cyrus mentioned in the Talmud. He is the Messiah we have waited who will redeem us from Golus and bring G-d’s glory to this world

    LOL

  8. I am a loyal citizen of the US. But voted against Obama and plan to do so next year. Being critical of the prez is not disloyal to the US. I may even argue I am more loyal to the values of the US than the prez is.

  9. Considering the importance of Pidyon Shvuyim and the suffering of our fellow Jews, can the Satmar Rav SHLIT”A please use his good offices with the President to obtain pardons for Jonathan Pollard and Sholom Rubashkin.

  10. #7, Think.

We can follow the democratic process and boot him out of office next year. We can not like anything he does, and we can let it be known.

What we should not do (as Yiddin) is openly condemn a sitting president. I admit, I’ve been guilty – very frustrated with his stance on E”Y.

But we are better than that. And as one commenter said, we should be careful not to upset the goyim in the government, we have it good in this country (so far).

  11. Your earlier post on this gathering, a short time ago, gave the attendance as just over 10,000. Now, in this post, is has suddenly leaped up to 30,000.

    Which figure should we trust?
