rabbi-shlomo-amar[Letter link below.] Israeli Sephardic Rabbi Rav Shlomo Amar has written a letter asking the public to daven and fast for rain with minimal precipitation having fallen in the last months.

Rav Amar states in his letter that most of the winter season has passed without the “gishmei bracha – rains of blessing,” and with Israel’s water flow “limited and coming with great suffering,” after several years of below average rainfall.

“The Kinneret is almost totally dry,” he says.

“It is our obligation in this situation to look inward and to actualize good deeds, to draw near to G-d with all our hearts, and to pour out our pleas to Him with a broken and forlorn heart.”

Rav Amar asks the rabim to daven and fast tomorrow, Thursday, 28 Teves. Those who have difficulty fasting, should fast at least half the day, he says.
