[Video below.] Rav Amnon Yitzchak officially announced today that he will be running for a seat in the Knesset.
Rav Yitzchak, who made the announcement during a shiur in Bat Yam, explained that he wishes to return the government to the hands of the people, who have been neglected by their politicians. The rov gave his commitment to continue working on behalf of the klal, seeking to improve the plight of the general population.
Rav Yitzchak, who is 59, is renowned for his involvement in kiruv through his ‘Shofar’ organization and via lectures in various media and on the internet. Rav Amnon was born in Tel Aviv to a Yemenite Jewish family and became religious at the age of 24 after stumbling across a sefer Kitzur Shulchan Aruch that he received for his bar mitzvah.
His mother recently passed away, and his father, R’ Yachya Zechriah Yitzchak, has been unwell of late as well.
Rav Yitzchak said that he expects to garner strong support in the coming Knesset elections. His party, he said, will be called “Koach Lehashpia,” meaning “The Power to Influence.”
