rav-elyashiv-and-rebbetzin-kanievsky[Video and photos below.] Rav Chaim Kanievsky traveled to Yerushalayim on Motzoei Yom Tov to visit his father-in-law, Rav Yosef Shalom Elyashiv, together with his wife, Rav Elyashiv’s daughter, Rebbetzin Batsheva Kanievsky.

During the visit to Rav Elyashiv’s sukkah at his home in Meah Shearim, the posek hador offered his illustrious son-in-law a glass of tea, and one of the household helpers brought a tea to Rav Chaim. A conversation ensued regarding the halachic permissibility of being metaltel a gold watch on Yom Tov and whether it has the status of a tachshit. Rav Chaim shared his thoughts, referring several times to his father-in-law as “Der shver.” Rebbetzin Kanievsky bentched her father, wishing him good health and arichas yomim.

Rav Chaim, after departing his father-in-law’s house, went to the Kosel to daven, accompanied by hundreds of people. Rav Chaim then paid a visit to noted askanim Yosef Stern and Zev Wolfson.

Most noticeable during Rav Chaim’s visit of Yerushalayim were the large crowds that gathered wherever he went and the countless photographers who followed his every move. The visit to Rav Elyashiv’s home was closed to the public, with the hordes of people waiting outside until Rav Chaim emerged.

  1. I agree..why do we act with gedolim the way the goyim act with their celebrities, always taking pictures and not leaving them alone..give them some privacy!

  2. Was thinking the same thing. Hamaron may be a godal hador, but for goodness sake he’s a human being, he needs to breathe too

  3. Astounding!! A Jewish daughter visits her father with her husband, can you believe it?, And,and, no, really, get this,I’m breathless ….the son in law is offered a CUP OF TEA!!! Moiridig!! I think I’m going to faint from excitement.
These news pieces border on the infantile.

  4. #4 what difference does it make if Rav Elyashiv gave his permission or not? It means he is mivataring on himself for the klal. That doesnt mean he doesn’t want the privacy he deserves.

  5. serving ones guests is a mitzvah
is that too difficult to understand as to how this applies to everyone whatever their level etc.?
