chaim-elazar-rabinovichIt is with great sadness that we report the passing of Rabbi Chaim Elazar Rabinovich zt”l at the age of 75.

After a short illness and difficult yissurim, Rav Rabinovich passed away at Hadassah Hospital in Yerushalayim.

Rabbi Rabinovich was born in the town of Munkacs on Shushan Purim תרצ”ט and was the second son of Rav Baruch Yehoshua Yerachmiel Rabinovich zt”l, son-in-law of the Minchas Elazar of Munkatch, who served as pre-war av bais din in Munkatch.

Rabbi Rabinovich learned in Telshe Yeshiva in Cleveland, Ohio, and was a talmid muvhak of Rav Mordechai Gifter zt”l.

He spent a good portion of his life working on the writings of his ancestors, especially the works of the Sheim Shlomo of Munkatch, as well as other previous admorim.

Rabbi Rabinovich lived for most of his life in Vienna and in recent years settled in Eretz Yisroel.

The levaya began at 3:30 p.m. in front of Bais Medrash Minchas Elazar Munkatch on Rechov Yoel in Yerushalaim. Hespeidim were delivered by Rav Yosef Horowitz, son-in-law of the Munkatcher Rebbe shlit”a; Rav Mordechai Gelber, Munkatcher Dayan in Bnei Brak; Rav Shimon Margolis, rosh kollel of Kollel Munkatch Yerushalayim; and a son of the niftar.

Kevurah took place on Har Hazeisim near the kever of Rav Rabinovich’s mother, Rebbetzin Frima a”h, who was the only daughter of the Minchas Elazar.

Rabbi Rabinovich is survived by two children, Rav Yosef Usher Rabinovich, who lives in New York, and Mrs. Finkelstein of Antwerp. He is also survived by his brother, the Munkatcher Rebbe, as well as his brother, the Dinover Rebbe, and a sister, who is married to Reb Tzvi Wilamowsky.

Yehi zichro boruch.

  1. Do the math – either born in 5699 and was 74 years old or born in 5698 and indeed 75. Surely was not born prior to 5698 because he was named for the Minchas Eluzer who died in Sivan 5697
