candle-small5It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Rav Chaim Elazer Braun zt”l, rov of Khal Shaarei Tzion in Flatbush, Brooklyn.

Rav Chaim Elazer was a son of Rav Shlomo Zalman Braun zt”l, renowned posek and author of Shearim Metzuyanim B’halacha. Rav Chaim Elazer succeeded his father as rov of Khal Shaarei Tzion following his petirah. He was responsible for the publication of his father’s seforim, which grace the shelves of yeshivos and botei medrash the world over. Rav Chaim Elazar also completed the set following his father’s passing.

The levaya is taking place tonight, Motzoei Shabbos, at Rav Braun’s shul, located at 1659 East 13th Street, between Kings Highway and Avenue P.

Yehi zichro boruch.

  1. Boruch Dayan Emes. He was a Yid with great yiraa Shamayim. As a rebbe he was supremely dedicated to the Torah development of his talmidim, all of whom he held absolutely precious. He was a Yid that graced us from a previous generation. We were exceedingly privileged to have him amongst us.

  2. how old was he? approx. how many years was he rav in flatbush? anyone know more info & his special ma’alos about him?

may his neshama have an aliya

Boruch dayan emes! Anyone who had the zchuz to meet Rabbi Browm Z’L will feel the loss of a father. For me Rabbi Braun was the consolation of a generation long gone that was refreshed at the moment you were at his presence. GEVALD! no words can express what I feel!!!

Taire yiddin, today is a sad day for all Jews and those who knew him will know why. Judaism is in need of caring loving sages like Rabbi Braun, we are all yesoimim indeed!
Last conversation I had with him were how much whould hurt him to hurt another yid. Every time I saw him he was learning Torah but more than that he was the example of a living sefer Torah. Many Gerim will mourn a father that was an ohev ger!!! I felt that as long as there is a Rabbi Braun there is a voice of EMES in the world!

    Hashem Yirachem oleinu.

  4. I was zoche to visit him a few years ago and I watched him working on Shearim Metzuyanim B’halacha on Meseches Zevachim. It was quite a sight!
    ?????

  5. my bar-mitzva was in the old east flatbush shul of Rav Shlomo Zalman Braun zt”l,the father of Rav Chaim Elazer and he was sweet like the father..he was truly a fulfillment of “”bro karaye d’avooh””” in publishing and completing the Shearim Metzuyanim B’halacha on Shas..in my bekius shiur in high school – the talmidim gave most attention to his vorts..And of course in halacha shiur the sefer was a must (they say it was a constant visitor on rav elayshivs table and one of the only seforim that Reb Aaron gave haskomo). And one cannot forget to mention the rebetzin who in her queit way had a tremendous influence on many of the women who survived the holocaust including my mother a”h.When the shul moved to Flatbush -my father zl would walk about 1/2 hour each way on shabbos to help in the minyan though he was not a young man and he was not from a chassidic background at all but he had respect for real erlicher rabonim and such was the whole Braun family !!!

His chesed and ahava went far from Brooklyn all the way to Colombia Puerto Rico Costa Rica Mexico Peru Venezuela and Argentina they too feel the loss of a giant and a father.

Yesterday We went to his Kever We wanted to be as close to him as posible. The Gerim that he love so much and guided feel lost because the know there is no replacement. May Hashem bring consolation to the family especially the chosheve rebbetzn sh’yichie.
