Rav Chaim Kanievsky visited Rav Yaakov Edelstein, rov of Ramat Hasharon, at Sheba Medical center in Tel Hashomer last night. Rav Chaim, who rarely leaves Bnei Brak, made the rare trip out of respect for the beloved rov.
Rav Edelstein has been in the hospital with various ailments, including breathing difficulties.
During the conversation between the two Torah giants, they discussed Rav Edelstein’s recent request that people daven for him using the name of his grandmother, as brought in Kabbolah.
They also discussed whether a choleh who is davening must pray towards Yerushalayim, as the general halacha is for a mispallel, because the Shechinah rests on a choleh. Rav Chaim seemed to suggest that there is no dispensation for a choleh just because Chazal say that the Shechinah is present.
Rav Edelstein was also visited by his brother, Rav Gershon Edelstein, Rosh Yeshiva Ponovezh, and Rav Berel Povarsky, Rosh Yeshivas Ponovezh.
An atzeres tefillah was held last night at the Kosel as a zechus for Rav Edelstein.
All are asked to continue davening for Rav Yaakov ben Miriam ben Gittel.
