It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Rav Chaim Shaul Greinemann zt”l of Bnei Brak on Friday, Shevi’i Shel Pesach. He was 89.
Rav Greinemann was born in Vilna, Lithuania, to Rav Shmuel and Rebbetzin Tzivya Greinemann. Rebbetzin Tzivya was a daughter of Rav Shmaryahu Yosef Karelitz and a sister of the Chazon Ish. Thus, Rav Greinemann was a nephew of the Chazon Ish.
After learning at Yeshiva Tiferes Tzion and in Lomza, Rav Greinemann learned in Chevron. In the late 1940s, Rav Greinemann married his rebbetzin, Chanah Devora, a daughter of Rav Yisroel Sholom Luria. Their mesader kiddushin was Rav Isser Zalman Meltzer.
Rav Greinemann was renowned for his Talmudic genius and his wide-ranging yedios in Torah. His seforim, simply titled “Chiddushim U’biurim,” are studied by bnei Torah cross the globe who benefit from his peirush and chiddushim on masechtos of Shas. His expertise in p’sak was often tapped into by those seeking halachic guidance. Rav Greinemann was a primary source of the p’sakim of his illustrious uncle, the Chazon Ish.
Rav Greinemann spent his life immersed in Torah study, while simultaneously guiding and leading various mosdos and mekomos haTorah, including Talmud Torah Ohr Zarei’ach, Yeshiva Tehillas Shlomo and Yeshiva Mishkan Hatorah.
Rav Greinemann is survived by sixteen children, twelve sons and four daughters, as well as many ainiklach and ur-ainiklach.
The levaya will be held Sunday morning at 11:00 at his bais medrash located at Rechov Chiddushei Harim and Rechov Devorah Haneviiah in Bnei Brak, followed by kevurah at the Zichron Meir Bais Hachaim.
