rav-shteinman2Last week, it was related to Maran Rav Chaim Kanievsky that some have issued statements about the gadol hador, Maran Rav Aharon Leib Shteinman, including by those who “disagree” with Rav Shteinman’s stances on various matters.

Rav Chaim as asked if one is permitted to remain quiet in the face of such bizayon haTorah of if one is obligated to speak out on the matter.

Rav Chaim smiled as if to say, “Who even thinks they are worthy enough to speak about Rav Shteinman?” He then turned serious and said that in the past he has been asked several times how one can tell who is the true manhig (leader) of Klal Yisroel.

“Actually, “said Rav Chaim, “a ben Torah wouldn’t ask this question, because one who doesn’t know this and feel this on his own isn’t a ben Torah.”

Rav Chaim then pointed out that Moshe Rabbeinu, in his time, suffered greatly and yet still undertook the burden of leading Klal Yisroel.

“And so it is with the gadol hador [Rav Shteinman]. He has nothing to be concerned about.”

Rav Chaim quoted a Rashi in Bamidbar and a Sifri to demonstrate that with regard to Moshe Rabbeinu there were “troublemakers and boors out to get you, who will be cursing you and stoning you,” indicating that having individuals attacking the manhig hador is, unfortunately, nothing new.

Rav Chaim said he was shocked by the horrific words made about Rav Shteinman and immediately returned to his learning.

  1. Can someone please tell me how is it that some mainstream Yeshivos plan on joining forces with satmar and staging an anti Israel demonstration this Sunday? This is in clear violation of Rav Stienman’s ruling!
