Rav Doniel Yehuda Neustadt Appointed Rov of One of Oldest Shuls in Detroit

Rabbi_Doniel_NeustadtRav Doniel Yehuda Neustadt, the Yoshev Rosh of the Va’ad Harabonim in Detroit, Michigan, has been appointed as the Mara D’asra of Bnai Israel-Beth Yehudah in Oak Park, Michigan.

Rav Neustadt was rov of Young Israel of Cleveland Heights for seven years and also served as the principal of Yavne Teachers College in Cleveland, OH. His seforim include The Weekly Halacha Discussion, The Daily Halacha Discussion, and The Monthly Halacha Discussion. He is also the editor of the works of Harav Yaakov Kamenetsky zt”l, his wife’s grandfather.

Congregation B’nai Israel-Beth Yehudah davens Nusach Sefard and was previously led by Rav Yoel Sperka, who has moved to New Jersey. The bais knesses is one of the oldest shuls in Metro Detroit.

The early rov of the shul was Rav Yisroel Flam zt”l, who was also a rebbi at Yeshiva Beth Yehudah and later the principal of The Hebrew Academy in Oak Park, which was affiliated with Yeshiva Beth Yehudah. The shul later moved and merged with the Polisher Shul and is located on West Ten Mile Road just east of Greenfield Road. Rav Flam was the rov until the 1960s, when he moved to Monsey, New York.

  1. Mazel tov to R’ Neustadt and lucky for his new mispallelim. As a resident of Lakewood, we have been privileged to spend many yomim tovim with him as he has been spending plenty of time in his home in Pine River Village. We will miss having him so close by. Wishing him much bracha and hatzlacha in his new position!!
