Exclusive: Rav Dovid Feinstein, rosh yeshiva of Mesifta Tiferes Yerushalayim, is currently in Eretz Yisroel, where he has traveled to take part in a crucial meeting for Chinuch Atzmai this coming week. The meeting has been called by Maran Rav Yosef Shalom Elyashiv to restructure the makeup of Chinuch Atzmai Torah schools in Eretz Yisroel. Rav Elyashiv desired for all American gedolim who have been involved in Chinuch Atzmai in past years to come to Eretz Yisroel to register as trustees of the organization at this meeting which will recharter the hierarchy of Chinuch Atzmai. The revamping of the organization will result in the creation of two boards, a vaad of 15-20 gedolim and a board of lay officers.
Close to 300 schools are part of the Chinuch Atzmai network.
The High Court of Israel has made efforts to prevent local municipalities from giving support monies to the Chinuch Atzmai schools. The creation of the new corporation will allow Chinuch Atzmai to function as a vibrant mosad with each of the schools reporting to their designated officers. It will also give the organization the legal power the obtain funding for bussing and other expenses. The corporate channels that will be created will also link the various officers to the vaad of gedolim for guidance and direction on matters of policy and education.
The meeting is expected to take place this Monday in the Novotel Hotel in Yerushalayim, Matzav.com has learned. It is expected that Rav Elyashiv, who rarely leaves his home, will preside over the meeting. Other gedolim, including by Maran Rav Aharon Leib Shteinman, are expected to be in attendance. The members of the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah in Eretz Yisroel and the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah in America have been invited and asked to attend the meeting.

This is a very one sided report. This meeting is an attempt by some of the factions involved with Chinuch Atzmai until now to take over control of the organization. Instead of starting their own chinuch network to serve the needs of their own communities they are ‘stealing’ the existing network. As in so many other things only one side of the story has been presented to “the gedolim” who have signed the call for this meeting.
Where will the Viznitzer and Gerrer Rebbes, the Presidents of the Moetzes Gedolei Hatorah, be on Monday morning? Not at the Novotel Hotel because they have not been invited, aside of the fact that the hotel is mechalel Shabbos befarhesia, but them what does Shemiras Shabbos matter when there is money at stake?
