Rav Dovid Lau: Israeli Justice Is Muddled

0

Speaking at a Bar Association convention, Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi Rav Dovid Lau said that lack of synchronization between Israel’s secular courts and botei din was leading to ridiculous scenarios.

As a case in point, he said that an Israeli court was dealing with an appeal for visitation rights submitted from overseas by the notorious Oded Gaz, who fled Israel after a bais din ordered him to give a get to his wife, whom he deserted four years ago.

“While still a fugitive, the get refuser filed a request with the Family Affairs Court to meet his children and the court is considering his request without reference to the fact that he fled the country and without requiring him to first return to Israel and stop deserting of his wife,” Rav Lau complained.
