At the Ponovezh Yeshiva in Bnei Brak, the davening on the two days of Rosh Hashana finished at about 4:40 p.m.

As previously reported on Matzav, this year, the baal tokeia at Ponovezh, the rosh yeshiva, Rav Gershon Edelstein, used a new shofar.

Rav Edelstein has been the baal tokeia in Ponovezh for over seventy years, since the early 1940s. This year, the shofar he had used for over four decades was found to be posul due to a hole. Rav Edelstein had received the shofar from a Rav Samuel, who passed away earlier this year. Rav Edelstein gave the shofar to Rav Samuel’s almanah.

He chose a new shofar from a selection of shofros presented to him by a son of Rav Meir Greineman.

Rav Edelstein blew perfect tekios and did not need to re-blow any of the kolos.

  1. I’m so, so curious who crafted the new shofar.
There are some world renowned expert shofar crafters and I’m so curious whose the Rosh Yeshiva used.
