rav-dovid-follman-matzavIt is with great sadness that we report the passing of Rav Eliezer Dovid Follman zt”l, longtime eighth grade rebbi at Yeshiva Torah Temimah in Brooklyn, NY. Rav Dovid, as he was known, was a respected talmid chochom and expert mechanech, who inculcated Torah ideals into generations of students, instilling in them a love of limud haTorah and Yiddishkeit.

Rav Follman was a rebbi at Torah Temimah for decades, a fixture of great reverence and a source of chizuk and inspiration to both his fellow rabbeim and the entire student body. With his effervescent personality, omnipresent simchas hachaim and sharp wit, he drew his talmidim close, influencing them and leaving an impact on them felt many years later.

Together with his rebbetzin, Rav Follman raised a mishpacha of respected bnei Torah.

The levaya will be held at 4 p.m. at Shomrei Hachomos Chapels, located at 4208 Ft. Hamilton Parkway in Boro Park, Brooklyn, followed by kevurah at the bais hakevaros in Deans, NJ.

Yehi zichro boruch.

  1. I didn’t know him personelly. But I could remember that when I was a bocher at least 15 years ago I used to see him come in with his father to daven Shachris almost every morning in the big Bobov Beis medrish. I didn’t know that he is a Rebbi. You see, Even a Rebbi could make time for kibud Av. His father needed his help and he was there for him. Should it be a zchus.

  2. He was my Rebbe 42 years ago in 9th grade in the Mesivta of Eastern Parkway. We learned Bava Kama that year, the first 30 blatt-a solid achievement in those days. He had an inimitable personality and a unique style of teaching. One one hand, he kept the atmosphere light and lively, but on the other hand he made it clear that he did not tolerate any nonsense. He expressed himself very clearly on all matters-wheather it pertained to a Talmid’s progress or his need to do better or wheather there was an occasion when he felt a need to express his Torahdiker outlook on a certain issue. There was never a doubt as to where he stood. He handled the parents very respectfully-and I’m talking about an era when the overwhelming majority of the parent body in our Yeshivas were Holocust survivors or people raised in America before WWII-whose goals for their sons were very different than the goals their Rabbeim set for them. When he punished us, although we resented the punishment, we knew it was for our own good, for we saw it was “divarim hayotzeim min halev’. His “hasbara” of Gemarah, Rashi and Tosfos was clear and solid and that’s how he gave his talmidim a geshmak in learning. Since the time he was my Rebbe I met him only a handful of times, but the warmth and good feelings always resurfaced at each meeting.
    Yeah Zichro Baruch.

  3. I too had Rabbi Follman as my rebbe in the 9th grade at the Mesifta of Eastern Parkway (in 1965-1966). Rabbi Follman did keep the learning atmosphere light and lively. I learned a lot from Rabbi Follman.
    Rabbi Follman’s Torah lives on.
