rav-eliezer-ehrenreich-mahder-rovIt is with great sadness that we report the passing of Rav Eliezer Ehrenreich zt”l, the Mahder Rov zt”l.

Rav Ehrenreich was a son of Rav Chaim Tzvi Ehrenreich zt”l, rov of the town of Mahd in Hungary, and grandson of Rav Yaakov Ehrenreich zt”l, noted askan obver 100 years ago.

Rav Eliezer was married to his Rebbetzin Chana Leah, a daughter of Rav Yoel Zusman Spitzer zt”l, in the town of Dezh, Romania. He served as rov in Mahd for a short time in the 1940s, lived for a few years in DP camps in Germany, and immigrated to the United States in 1949.

Rav Eliezer led Machon Kol Aryeh, which prints the seforim of the Kol Aryeh and others and has published dozens and dozens of volumes.

The levaya was held at the Mezhibuzher Bsis Medrash Bnei Moshe in Boro Park, led by Rav Avrohom Yehoshua Heshel Bick, who was maspid along with Rav Menachem Rokeach, Bertcher Rov; Rav Asher Anshel Katz, his sons, R’ Yoel, R’ Chaim Zvi and R’ Naftali; and R’ Yanky Ehrenreich, a grandson.

The burial took place in the Munkatcher section of the Floral Park Cemetery in Deans, NJ.

Rav Eliezer is survived by his children, R’ Yoel, R’ Chaim Tzvi, R’ Naftali and Mrs. Suri Friedman, as well as many grandchildren and great-children.

Shivah is taking place at 1642 54th Street, between 16th and 17th Avenues, in Boro Park.

  1. As a child my family davened by Rav Moshe Bick Zatza”l where ths Mahder Ruv and his family davened too.Rav Moshe Bick was very, very mechaabed him! He must habe been nearly 100 years of age! In fact I saw him going and coming to shul to daven just this past Yom Tov season wiote often! He was a very choshuver yid!

  2. I think his grandchildren are very cohhuver youngerleit. His einikel is the nenuteh rav and a noted asken and fundraiser. His other einikel is the gabai in bais menachem in boro park. Mi yiten lonu temuroso!!!

  3. He was our link to Jewish greatness of Pre-WWII. He labored to preserve that heritage through the many sefarim that he published. He was an old-time European Rav. He personified the glory of the Hungarian Rabbanus. We are all truly orphaned by the passing of such persoange.

  4. I knew the Mahdeh Ruv And I was actually close to him. He was mechazek me many times and influenced me to learn Shlu Hakudesh.
