rav-elyashivJust days after Maran Rav Yosef Shalom Elyashiv underwent tests at Shaarei Tzedek Hospital in Yerushalayim revealing that he has water in his lungs and that his heart is working only at 20 percent capacity, the centenarian posek hador served as the mesader kiddushin at the wedding of his youngest grandchild tonight.

The wedding was held at the Tamir Hall in Yerushalayim.

The kallah is a daughter of Rav Elyashiv’s son-in-law and daughter, Rav and Rebbetzin Binyomin Rimmer. Rav Rimmer serves as rosh yeshiva at Yeshivas Kiryas Melech in Bnei Brak.

The chosson, Zevulun Drebkin, is a grandson of Rav Tzvi Drebkin, rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Grodno in Beer Yaakov.

Originally, due to his precarious health, Rav Elyashiv’s doctors had felt that even the short travel to the wedding hall would be too much for him. However, with Rav Elyashiv feeling a bit stronger today, he expressed his desire to attend the chasunah. His doctors examined him carefully and prescribed various precautions to be taken as the gadol hador was transported from his home on Rechov Chanan in Meah Shearim to the wedding.

A hush fell over the gathered guests at the wedding as the zaida of the kallah entered the hall. His initially unexpected participation added palpable sense of excitement and joy to the simcha.

As Rav Elyashiv’s condition remains serious, doctors have determined there was no reason for him to be hospitalized and that it would best for him to remain at home, where he is receiving medicine and medical care.

All are asked to daven for Rav Yosef Shalom ben Chaya Musha.

  1. I was afraid you would mention the first names of the kallah or her mother, thereby breaking all laws of tznius and causing great calamaties to befall the Jewish people. But you didn’t. What a relief.
