Yerushalayim – Following an emergency procedure performed on Rav Yosef Shalom Elyashiv this morning at Shaarei Tzedek Hospital, he is in critical condition, according to his doctors, and Klal Yisroel is asked to continue davening for Rav Yosef Shalom ben Chaya Musha.
Over Shabbos, some slight improvement was seen in Rav Elyashiv’s condition, according to his attending physicians, but now it seems that the optimism was a bit premature. It worsened again after he underwent procedures this morning for the removal of mechanical breathing devices. He began breathing on his own with the help of oxygen but then suffered a serious setback.
The gadol hador‘s spokesman, Rav Shlomo Kook, told Matzav.com that the procedure failed and his condition is now critical. Physicians discovered the past two days that problems with Rav Elyashiv’s heart have been complicated by what appears to be pneumonia that has contributed to the worsening of his condition and which hampered attempts to allow him to breathe independently.
Rav Kook stressed that Rav Elyashiv’s condition has reverted to critical and is no better than it was a week ago.
Rav Elyashiv’s family members remain close by, davening and saying Tehillim for his recovery. They stress that he is still in need of great rachamei Shomayim.
Around the world, tefillos are being said in shuls and yeshivos for Rav Elyashiv, as Yidden are storming the heavens to grant the centenarian gadol hador a complete recovery.
All are asked to continue davening for Rav Yosef Shalom ben Chaya Musha.
