Rav Elyashiv Taken to the Hospital

First report, 9:25 p.m. IL: The personal physician of the posek hador, Rav Yosef Shalom Elyashiv, was summoned this evening after Maariv in Rav Elyashiv’s bais medrash in Meah Shearim, as Rav Elyashiv had been

experiencing pain and discomfort for several hours. After a series of examinations, the doctor felt that, due to the gadol‘s advanced age, he should be taken to the hospital for further checks.

Rav Elyashiv did not deliver his regular daily shiur.

The initial assessment of the physician is that Rav Elyashiv is suffering from pneumonia and that the weakness and coughs that he is suffering from are symptoms of this. A final assessment will be made at the hospital.

Rav Elyashiv expressed his consent to be transported to the hospital, at the recommendation of the doctor, and he was taken in the car of his trusted gabbai, Rav Yosef Efrati, driven by R’ Chaim Cohen and accompanied by Rav Aryeh Elyashiv, to Shaare Tzedek Medical Center in Yerushalayim. It is because Rav Elyashiv’s condition is considered stable that he was transported via car and not in an ambulance.

The public is asked to daven for a refuah sheleimah for Rav Yosef Shalom ben Chaya Musha.
