rav-malkiel-kotlerThe Soviet Union was a vibrant citadel of Torah for many generations, until the rise of Communism extinguished the flame of Jewish life for 70 painful years. Miraculously, a spark of Yiddishkeit was ignited in the 1970s, fanned by the amazing work of the Vaad L’Hatzolas Nidchei Yisroel. One highly successful branch of the Vaad is the seminar “dacha” program, which offers thirsting Russian souls an intense biannual program of limud haTorah and kiyum hamitzvos.

This program, spearheaded by Rabbi Naftoli Cukier and a crew of dedicated shluchim, is creating a Russian revolution, a spiritual revolution which is producing hundreds upon hundreds of committed Yidden, many of whom are emerging as prominent talmidei chachomin, rabbonim and marbitzei Torah.

The annual parlor meeting for the Lakewood chapter of the Vaad will take place tonight, t 8:30 p.m., at Esther Gerber Hall in Lakewood, NJ.

This year’s event will honor the shluchim of ’89 and ’99 who, with great mesiras nefesh, overcame all obstacles and paved the way into the hearts of our Russian brothers.

The Jews of Russia may be out of sight, but they cannot be out of mind. It is our responsibility to reach out to the thousands of precious lost souls across Russia and bring them back to their roots.

Participation in the parlor meeting will be a tremendous source of chizuk for all who are directly involved, as well as an open display of unity and ahavas Yisroel which are greatly needed zechusim in our times.
