Rav Mordechai Eliyahu Taken Off Respirator

rav-mordechai-eliyahuRav Mordechai Eliyahu, former Sefardic Chief Rabbi of Israel, has been taken off the respirator which he was connected to and is now breating on his own. The Rishon Letzion was disconnected from the machine this morning and is said to be alert, though he is still very weak and needs rachamei Shomayim.

Rav Eliyahu was placed in intensive care and connected to a respirator earlier this week after undergoing emergency surgery last week at Shaarei Tzedek Medical Center in Yerushalayim.

As reported here on Matzav.com, the 80-year-old former Rishon Letzion lost consciousness for several minutes last Monday at his home, and, after being treated by paramedics and regaining consciousness, was taken to Shaarei Tzedek, where emergency surgery was later performed.

Rav Eliyahu served as Chief Rabbi of Israel from 1983 to 1993.

All are asked to continue davening for Rav Mordechai Tzemach ben Mazal l’refuah sheleimah.
