candle-small5It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Rav Mordechai Eliyohu (Muttel) Rabinowitz zt”l, one of the last few remaining members of Mir Yeshiva in Europe. He was niftar at Shaarei Tzedek Medical Center in Yerushalayim late last night.

Rav Rabinowitz was a son of Rav Shraga Feitel Rabinowitz zt”l, the Zabliner Rov.

In addition to having learned in the Mir in Poland and for a short while in Shanghai, he also learned in the Baranovitch Yeshiva under Rav Elchonon Wasserman zt”l.

After the war, Rav Rabinowitz immigrated to Canada and subsequently met and married his wife, Rochel, a daughter of Rav Chaim Eliezer Samson zt”l, rosh yeshiva of Yeshivah Chofetz Chayim in Baltimore. He then accepted a position on the hanhallah of Yeshivah Mercaz Hatorah for 25 years until emigrating to Eretz Yisroel.

The levaya is being held this morning in front of Yeshivas Mir-Yerushalayim.

Rav Rabinowitz is survived by his wife and three children and their families: his two sons, R’ Shloime and R’ Avi, and his daughter, Malca, wife of R’ Shloime Gottesman, all of whom reside in New York.

Yehi zichro boruch.
