candleIt is with great sadness that we report the passing of Rav Mordechai Premock zt”l of Boro Park, Brooklyn.

Rav Premock was a noted talmid chochom who was most well-known for his pioneering efforts in producing calendars that featured comprehensive listings of zemanim. Rav Premock invested great amounts of time and energy to compile luchos that were halachically sound and thoroughly accurate.

It is due to his scrupulousness and expertise that leading poskim and rabbonim relied on what became known as “the Premock calendar.” Years before computers and technology allowed the production of calendars with pinpoint accuracy, Rav Mordechai was producing calendars that could be relied upon by Torah Jews. Rav Premock created the blueprint that would later be followed by others.

Rav Premock is survived by his wife, Mrs. Risa Premock, and his four daughters, Mrs. Shaynie Shain, Mrs. Miriam Milworm, Mrs. Raizy Freeman and Mrs. Rivky Paretzky.

The family is sitting shivah at 1559 40th Street, between 15th and 16th Avenues, in Boro Park, Brooklyn, until Friday afternoon.

Yehi zichro boruch.

  1. My 9th grade rebbe, Reb Yaakov Wehl, ZL, extolled these calendars, and got one for every kid in the class. Later, I was zocheh to become very close with the wonderful Paretzky family, the mechutanim. Rabbi Paretzky Sr. was the bochen at YU, and his children became noted talmidei chachamim and authors, and first-rate menschen and baalei midos.

These were the old-style lamdanim, who loved learning for Torah’s sake, not for politics or making a tumult, and their midos were of first-rate refinement, with kindness and gentleness to all. May the entire family have a nechama and know only simchas.
