Rav Refoel Moshe Luria zt”l

It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Rav Refoel Moshe Luria zt”l, a rosh yeshiva at Yeshiva Shaar Hashomayim in Yerushalayim, at the age of 73. Rav Luria, who visited the Kosel each day and was known for davening kevasikin there each morning, passed away after heading to the Kosel early this morning to daven kevasikin. He lost consciousness and resuscitation attempts failed.

Rav Luria was born in Teveriah to his parents, Rav and Rebbetzin Mordechai Yechiel Luria. Rav Mordechai Yechiel was from the most respected Slonimer Chassidim in Tiveriah. At the age of 13, Rav Moshe was enrolled in the Slonimer Yeshiva in Yerushalayim. Rav Moshe was a talmid of the Nesivos Shalom of Slonim. After his marriage, he learned in Yeshivas Mir, Kollel Toras Chaim and the kollel of Rav Mordechai Elefant. He later became rosh yeshiva at Yeshiva Lefalgos Reuven, where he began studying Toras Hanistar and Toras Ha’Arizal. Rav Luria was one of the most respected mekubalim and served as rosh yeshiva at the Yeshiva L’Mukabalim Shaar Hashomayim.

Rav Luria authored close to 100 seforim on Toras Hanistar and Toras Haniglah, including sifrei Bais Genazi on Torah and moadim al pi derech hachassidus vehasod. Over the years, Rav Luria learned with several gedolei Torah and learned bechavrusah with the Slonimer and Toldos Aharon Rebbes, and in earlier years with the Belzer Rebbe.

The levaya was held this morning at Yeshiva Shaar Hashormayim on Rechov Rashi in Yerushalayim. Kevurah took place on Har Hazeisim.
