Rav Moshe Mordechai Schulsinger zt”l

moshe-mordechai-schulsinger-2It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Rav Moshe Mordechai Schulsinger zt”l, one of the gedolei Torah of Eretz Yisroel. Rav Schulsinger was rov of Bais Medrash Yarchei Kallah in Bnei Brak and author of the acclaimed seforim Mishmar Halevi.

Rav Schulsinger had been hospitalized last Monday at Tel Hashomer Hospital after suffering pneumonia. He was niftar on Shabbos.

Rav Schulsinger was born in 1941 to his parents, Rav and Rebbetzin Yitzchok Schulsinger. His father was a rov in Haifa and Rav Moshe Mordechai learned in his youth at the Slabodka Yeshiva.

Rav Schulsinger was a renowned talmid chochom and delivered a very popular daily Daf Yomi shiur at his bais medrash, Bais Medrash Yarchei Kallah, in Bnei Brak. He was known, as well, for his strong stances to protect the kedushah and taharah of the community, standing up in many instances against those who wished to compromise on halacha and hashkafah.

In addition to authoring the seforim Mishmar Halevi, various seforim of correspondence between Rav Schulsinger and gedolei hador were published as well. These include Peninei HaGriz – correspondence with the Brisker Rov; Peninei Avi Ezri – correspondence with Rav Elazar Shach; and Peninei Kehillos Yaakov – correspondence with the Steipler Gaon, with whom Rav Schulsinger was particularly close.

Rav Schulsinger was talmid of gedolei Torah of the last century, including the Brisker Rov, the Steipler Gaon and Rav Shach.

The levaya was held at Bais Medrash Yarchei Kallah on Rechov Rav Dessler in Bnei Brak.

Yehi zichro boruch.

  1. he was a talmid muvhak of rav yechezkel abramsky, whereas in addition to quoting from him in many of his shiurim and speaches,he has written peninei chazon yechezkel,in regards to the brisker rav he learnt by reb dovid and had an uncle that was close to the brisker rav yet he was not a talmid of his.he was a tremendous talmid chacham of “yester-year” caliber combined with his really sharp wit,and unwaivering stance on what he deemed necsassary.

  2. I can only cry as I pronounce Boruch Dayan Emes at the immense loss of hislahavus in Torah that klal Yisroel has suffered today…

  3. i went to his shiurim in bnei brak. just an amazing talmid chochom with an extensive knowledge of shas & meforshim. He would give a daf yomi shiur for literally 3+ hours straight- something that to the best of my knowledge is nonexistent. He was also very sharp & funny; and he brought out a tremendous geshmak in the learning. I will miss hios shiurim alot, but i’m sure he’s fighting again in learning with R’ Shach, the Chazon Ish, & Steipler once again. Yehei zichro boruch. May this misas tzadik be mechaper on our aveiros, & we should see moshiach soon.
