rav-moshe-schlossIt is with great sadness that we report the passing yesterday of Rav Moshe Schloss zt”l in Yerushalayim. A talmid of Rav Moshe Schneider’s yeshiva in London during World War II and member of the Gateshead Kollel, Rav Moshe was known to many as “the Chofetz Chaim of England.”

For the last 22 years, Rav Moshe was a fixture in the Ezras Torah neighborhood of Yerushalayim and was respected by all for his avodas hatefillah and his simchas hachaim. He devoted his life to Torah and avodas Hashem, and inspired so many with his middos tovos, his warm persona and his strong emunah.

Among the maspidim at the levaya was Rav Yitzchok Tuvia Weiss, Gaon Av Bais Din of the Badatz of the Eidah Hachareidis of Yerushalayim and a chavrusah of the niftar and close friend of the Schloss mishpacha.

Kevurah took place on Har Hamenuchos.

Rav Moshe is survived by an upstanding family of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all involved in avodas hakodesh.

Yehi zichro boruch.

  1. Around 5 years ago I used to pass by him every day on the street he lived on (Rechov Evan H’azel in the Ezras Torah Neighborhood.) He ALWAYS had a smile on his face as he walked down the street and gave Shalom to almost every person that walk passed him. I was zoche to daven with him shachris and maariv a few times and saw the way he took every tefillah seriously. The last time I saw him was a few weeks ago already in a wheelchair (5 years ago he was still walking, slowly, but walking)…Obviously not as well as he was, but still smiling!!

(to #1 even a year ago he was still walking). a true loss to klal yisroel. yihyeh zichro boruch.

  4. Yes, He was a younger brother of Rav Chaim Schloss ZT’L of Detriot. He was sent on a kinder transport to England during the war. He was a rov in Tangiers and later gave a Choshen Mishpat shiur in London to members of the diamond club there for many years.
