Rav Moshe Steinmetz zt”l
It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Rav Moshe Steinmetz zt”l, longtime maggid shiur in Yeshiva Torah Vodaas. He was 87.
Rav Steinmetz, who resided in Boro Park, served in Yeshiva Torah Vodaas for nearly 60 years, raising generations of talmidim, imbuing in them a love of Torah.
Rav Shteinmetz spent most of his life in Yeshiva Torah Vodaas, having learned there in his younger years. He was a talmid of the rosh yeshiva of Torah Vodaas, Rav Shlomo Heiman zt”l, and was zoche to be meshamesh Rav Shlomo for many years. After spending years learning as a talmid in the yeshiva, Rav Moshe came full circle to serve as a R”M in the yeshiva for decades.
Rav Steinmetz is survived by his wife, Rebbetzin Faiga Steinmetz, and five children, Rav Yosef Shmiel Steinmetz of Boro Park; Rivky Steinmetz of Boro Park; Mrs. Esther Basch of Monsey, wife of Rav Yaakov Basch; Mrs. Hindy Herzka of Lakewood, wife of Rav Yissochor Herzka; and Rav Shlomo Hersh Steinmetz of Boro Park. Rav Steinmetz was predeceased by one son.
The levaya was held today in the bais medrash of Yeshiva Torah Vodaas. The niftar requested that no hespeidim be said at the levaya. Brief remarks at the levaya were delivered by Rav Kaplinsky of Yeshiva Torah Vodaas, and by the niftar’s son-in-law, Rav Yissochor Herzka.
Kevurah took place in the Floral Park Cemetery in Deans, NJ.
Yehi zichro boruch.

Rav Steinmetz z”l was my rebbi in seventh grade. He was a phenominal rebbi. Patient, kind, explained very well. I loved him.
I heard that when Rav Shlomo Heiman was sick he asked that Rav Steinmez say tehilim for him because he was an ehrliche bochur.

yes - it is Rav Yakov Basch - his father was the butcher in Cleveland, but they moved to Chicago about 10 years ago - he was beloved by all in Chicago and was called Zeide Basch, by young and old alike. May the Basch family know of no more tz’aar.

Is that RAv Yaakov Basch, who used to be with STAM? if so, he is sitting shiva this week as well for his father, the former butcher from Cleveland.
