rabbi-lieffHarav Moshe Tuvia Lieff will be spending this Shabbos, Parshas Naso, with his new kehillah, Agudas Yisroel Bais Binyomin, located at Avenue L and Nostrand Avenue in Flatbush. As reported first here on Matzav.com, back in February the kehillah officially announced that Rav Lieff would take over as mara d’asrah of the shul, which had been led until then by Rav Pinchos Breuer, who, after a decade as rov, moved to Eretz Yisroel.

Rav Breuer took over as rov of Agudah of Avenue L after the petirah of Rav Yitzchok Isbee zt”l, the beloved rov of the shul who was niftar after suffering from illness.

On Shabbos afternoon this week, Rav Lieff, who is renowned as a master orator, will speak for women at 4:30 p.m. on the topic of “Mamleches Kohanim Vegoy Kadosh – Raising Royalty in Today’s World.” At 5:30 p.m., Rav Lieff will speak for men about hilchos kedushas bais haknesses. Mincha will follow at 6:15 p.m., and at 6:35, the rov will speak for men and women on “Pirkei Avos: Toras Hamesorah.”

Rav Lieff served for many years as rov of Cong. Bais Yisroel in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His departure from the Minneapolis kehillah which he has served with such distinction has been felt by his mispallelim and admirers back home, as Rav Lieff had inspired the community there for close to two decades. It was Rav Lieff – a close talmid of the Mirrer Rosh Yeshiva, Harav Shmuel Berenbaum zt”l, from whom he received Yoreh Yoreh Yadin Yadin semicha, as well as Harav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach zt”l – who secured seed-funding from Torah Umesorah, which eventually resulted in the founding of the Minneapolis Community Kollel, a jewel in the Minneapolis community. Rav Lieff, who spent nine years as a member of the Telshe Kollel in Cleveland, where he also served as the mesivta‘s eleventh grade maggid shiur, is responsible for transforming Minneapolis into a veritable Torah center.

A dynamic speaker and respected talmid chochom, Rav Lieff’s new position as mara d’asra of the Agudah of Avenue L has brought much excitement to the members of the shul, the Flatbush community, and greater Northeast Torah community.
