rav-moshe-yosef-kedemRav Moshe Yosef, a son of Chacham Ovadiah Yosef zt”l and head of Kashrus Beit Yosef, visited Kedem ahead of Pesach.

Rav Yosef made a special visit to the United States to visit the winery in Marlboro, NY, and the processing plant in Bayonne, NJ.

Prior to his visit, Rav Yosef had a long discussion with his brother, the Rishon Letzion, Rav Yitzchok Yosef, about the halachos of the winemaking process according to the standards of the Bais Yosef. Rav Yitzchok praised the Kedem and Herzog wineries, saying that they are the only known wines produced in America that are 100% kosher according to the opinion of the Bais Yosef and the Rambam.

Eighth-generation winemaker Eli Herzog and Rav Shulem Shisha of the Eidah Hachareidis of Yerushalayim gave Rav Yosef a tour of the Kedem facilities. Rav Yosef was excited to see with his own eyes that Kedem’s wine and grape juice are made according to the stringencies of the Bais Yosef and the Rambam.

Upon the conclusion of his visit, Rav Yosef remarked that he was very impressed by the winery and the winemaking process. As he was leaving the bottling facility, he said, “Not only is the wine and grape juice delicious, but it is 100% kosher according to the highest standards of kashrus and the opinion of the Bet Yosef.”
