rav-naftali-landauIt is with sadness that we report the passing yesterday of Rav Naftali Landau zt”l, the Chuster Dayan. He was 97.

Rav Landau was born in Legenmihay, Hungary, where his father, Rav Binyomin Zev Landau, served as mara d’asra. Rav Landau was a son-in-law of Rav Yaakov Friedman zt”l, Chuster Dayan.

Rav Landau was a renowned gaon, who knew Shas and Shulchan Aruch on his fingertips. He maintained a close relationship with the admorim of Satmar, who sought his expertise in halacha and greatly respected his wide range of Torah knowledge. He was a respected posek and in the last century served on botei din with such luminaries as Rav Moshe Feinstein and Rav Yonasan Steif.

Rav Landau is survived by his rebbetzin, Rebbetzin Neitchu Landau; and his children, Rav Binyomin Zev Landau, Tosher Dayan of Boro Park; Rebbetzin Simi Katz, Rebbetzin Toba Frankel, Rebbetzin Esther Feiner and Rebbetzin Rochel Isaacson.

The family will be sitting shivah until Friday at 1520 58th Street, between 15th Avenue and 16th Avenue in Boro Park.
