Rav Nissim Karelitz Hospitalized


rav-nissim-karelitzRav Nissim Karelitz, rosh kollel of Kollel Chazon Ish in Bnei Brak, was admitted last night to Mayanei Hayeshuah Hospital in Bnei Brak.

The 88-year-old gaon and senior posek was suffering from shortness of breath and was transported to the hospital, where he has undergone series of tests. The medical staff decided to keep him for further treatment and follow-up.

Rav Karelitz has been suffering from various ailments of late and has rarely left his home over the past months. He did recently visit the home of his cousin, Rav Chaim Kanievsky, for the bris of a common great-grandson.

Rav Nissim, who was born in July 1926 in the town of Vilna, is the av bais din of the bais din of Bnei Brak and av bais din of the Ramat Aharon neighborhood.  He is a nephew of the Chazon Ish, whose sister was Rav Nissim’s mother. His rebbetzin is a daughter of Rav Tzvi Hirsch Kopshitz and a great-granddaughter of Rav Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld.

All are asked to daven for Rav Shmaryahu Yosef Nissim ben Basya l’refuah shlaymah.
