Kohanim will need to find other ways to fly out of Erez Yisroel than through Ben Gurion Airport for the first two weeks of November, according to a p’sak of Rav Nissim Karelitz, rosh kollel of Kollel Chazon Ish and noted senior posek, because flight paths for all airplanes departing from Eretz Yisroel during that time period will pass above the Cholon bais hachaim, Matzav.com has learned.

Based on the p’sak of Rav Nissim, obtained by Matzav.com, those flying out of Eretz Yisroel on those dates should take a flight from Chaifa to Cyprus, and then fly from Cyprus to their destinations.

The change in the flight paths from Ben Gurion is due to construction work to improve one of the runways at the airport.

Rav Nissim’s p’sak states that “information has been received that starting at 5 a.m. on November 1, until November 17, all flights leaving Ben Gurion Airport to all destinations will fly over the Cholon cemetery. Incoming flights will not be on this flight path, though. Kohanim who need to travel during these dates should fly out of Haifa to Cyprus.”

  1. 1 does this apply to all destinations? Because in the past there were diferences between flights to Europe and the US

2 did this psak really come from him? Because it uses the word “November” which I’m sure he doesn’t normally use in his psakim

  2. What about those who are returning with their round-trip ticket? Not every airline fly’s out of Cyprus. Is one Michuyav to take on such a loss of money? He basically has to throw out his current plane ticket and purchase a new one. What about the tircha to the rest of the family and those who were waiting, back in the states?
