rav-shmuel-rabinovichThe rov of the Kosel, Rav Shmuel Rabinovich, has made a commitment that police would not arrest women who would recite Kaddishat the Kosel, despite a statement given by Yerushalayim District Police Chief Yossi Parienti that the police intends to bolster enforcement and that women saying Kaddish at the Kosel is forbidden by Israeli law.

Rav Rabinovich’s response refers to criticism leveled by Jewish Agency Chairman Natan Sharansky and Yesh Atid MK Aliza Lavi regarding the decision to ban women’s tefillos at the site.

As reported earlier by Matzav.com Israel, Yerushalayim’s District Police Chief, Yossi Pariente, issued new legislation today, including officially forbidding women from reciting Kaddish at the Kosel.

  1. What is frightening is the blatant involvement of secular police infringing upon religious liberty. Being able to dictate what prayers one may or may not say should be something NO ONE wants.

Today, it’s women saying Kaddish. Tomorrow it will be that Siyum Kaddish with the wish of temple service restoration. After that, parts of the Shemonei Esrei will be banned, you know, the parts about restoring temple service, wishing for the return of a (non democratic) Davidic monarchy. Forget about morning Berachos -“shelo Assani Isha” Eved, Goy etc.

… Think i’m paranoid…last week the police arrested two men and a lamb for attempting to bring a Korban Pesach. Halacha notwithstanding, the secular police should NOT be involved in religious practice.

  2. Spelling is obviously not your strong suit. “Wont” means accustomed to. “Won’t” is a contraction for will not, which is what your headline writer meant.

  3. Where does it say that a woman can not say Kaddish?
I actually remember seeing it brought down somewhere that there used to be
A minhag for women to say Kaddish

  4. #2 let me point out the obvious. Freedom of provocation (I would hardly call it religious feeling) stops where it infringes on someone else’s religious liberty. Respectful access to the Kotel is allowed to everyone, and there is no lack of Reform buildings where the ladies can do whatever they want. How would you react if our xian citizens or visitors organized their thing at the Kotel which they also venerate?

  5. Guess the Rabbi was warned and had to give in. Look who is giving advice, a Yesh Atid MK and Sharansky – both looking to how it looks in world opinion and, of course, never looking to see how it pertains to Jewish laws and customs. Also, these ‘women’ are not giving up their agenda, because that’s what it is, an agenda. These same women would never dare desecrate a holy site of other religions anywhere in the world. They are a political feminist movement – their goal = take true Torah OUT of Israel and twist it to be unrecognizable!
