Rav Reuven Elbaz Appointed as Member of Moetzet Chachmei Hatorah of Shas

Yesterday, it was announced that Rav Reuven Elbaz, the venerated rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Ohr Hachaim in Yerushalayim and one of the leading Sefardic gedolei Torah in Eretz Yisroel, has joined the Moetzet Chachmei Hatorah of the Shas party.

The nosi of the Moetzet Chachmei Hatorah of Shas, Rav Shalom Cohen, arrived unexpectedly at a shiur of Rav Elbaz at his yeshiva and announced his appointment as a member of the Moetzet Chachmei Hatorah.

When Rav Cohen arrived at Ohr Hachaim, Rav Elbaz stopped his shiur and the talmidim greeted Rav Cohen with singing. Rav Elbaz received Rav Cohen enthusiastically.

Rav Cohen responded and told the talmidim, “You have a big zechus to be among the talmidim of Rav Elbaz.”

In recent days, Shas chairman Aryeh Deri worked with members of the Moetzet Chachmei Hatorah to have Rav Elbaz appointed as a member, which will greatly boost the standing of Shas among bnei Torah.
